The Four Aspects
Sheena, Stella, Solica and Samara — their relics, colours and Essences, the flaw each one carries, and why reuniting them is a choice rather than a victory.
Four guardians, four relics, four Essences. The Archive records them in this order by convention rather than rank, and takes no position on whether they are four beings or one being seen from four directions. The Aspects themselves disagree about this, which the Archive finds instructive.
Sheena, the Unbreakable
Aspect of Strength. Crimson. She carries the Unbroken Core, and her sign is a clenched fist closed around a star. She guards the peoples who endure — the machine civilisations, the fortress realms, every reality where survival is a daily decision rather than an assumption. Patient, steadfast, and first to arrive when something has to be held.
She does not admit injury. Not to her sisters, not to her petitioners, and not when admitting it would let someone help. Those who walk her Essence tend to inherit this, and it is the most common way a Strength-walker gets people killed.
Stella, the Ever-Moving
Aspect of Speed. Gold. She carries the Starstep Blade, and her sign is a shooting star crossing a ring. Hers are the transforming heroes, the swift civilisations, the worlds whose shape is motion. Bold, decisive, and the reason anything in the Nexus happens on the first day rather than the fortieth.
She will not wait. Not for a plan, not for the slowest member of the party, not for the fact that has not arrived yet. Her Essence produces the champions who reach the tear in time and the champions who reach the wrong tear in time, and she has never accepted that those are the same flaw.
Solica, the Heartbound
Aspect of Social. Rose. She carries the Concord Heart, and her sign is a radiant heart joined to four circles. She guards harmony and the bonds between peoples, and she is the Aspect a Tideward fleet sings to before a crossing. Compassionate, hopeful, and the only one of the four whom every world's petitioners approach in roughly the same way.
She avoids the necessary fight. A conflict that ought to be had she will delay, soften and route around, and the Vale's Hush is a standing argument that some silences are her doing. Compelled agreement produces nothing — she knows this better than anyone, and still flinches from the quarrel that would produce the real thing.
Samara, the All-Knowing
Aspect of Smarts. Sapphire. She carries the Infinite Archive, and her sign is an open eye containing a four-pointed star. Hers are the strategic worlds, the hidden collections, the knowledge carried between realities — and her Archive mirrors Lumenarch's Index Tree closely enough that pages lost in one surface as Bleed fog in the other. Analytical, disciplined, secretive.
She withholds. Not maliciously and not always wrongly, but reliably: she tells you the thing you need at the moment she has judged you ready for it, and her judgement has been wrong at least twice in the record the Archive is willing to publish about itself.
What restoring her would mean
When the barriers between worlds fail, Essara may come apart into these four. The Everheart's oldest account holds that this has already happened once, at the Fracture, and that everything since has been four guardians covering for one.
So the campaigns that end at the Everheart do not end with a battle. They end with a choice, because the four do not agree and cannot be averaged. Reuniting them means deciding which flaw the restored guardian keeps — whether she endures without admitting the cost, or moves before she is certain, or keeps the peace at the price of the quarrel, or knows everything and tells you later.
There is no fifth option in which she is simply whole. The Archive has looked.
